Choose an aspect ratio before editing

Frame for the intended viewing surface.

Prepare

Use a wide frame for presentations and conventional long videos. Use a vertical frame when the destination expects portrait playback. Check the currently available duration limit in the project; a portrait crop does not make a long recording short.

Work through the decision

Plan the placement of faces, chart labels, and captions for the chosen frame. A wide photo may need a different crop in portrait. Do not assume changing the frame will preserve every important detail at the edge.

Review the result

Preview the most crowded scene and the longest caption after any aspect change. If a chart becomes too small, simplify it or split it across scenes rather than shrinking all text.
